What a poor sight the American landscape would be without Echinacea! Once blooming freely across the prairies and hills of our wild country, it soon moved into meadows and gardens, attracting butterflies, making itself useful as a home remedy for just about any ailment, and feeding the birds. Anyone could grow it, with its roots that somehow found water and food in the poorest soils, its spiky base that kept nibbling predators away, and its abundance of merry summer flowers.
Now Echinacea is one of the most highly prized perennials in the sunny garden, and plantsmen and -women all over the world have devoted themselves to developing bigger blooms, more compact plants, and new flower colors. Sometimes too much breeding is not a good thing, but with Echinacea, the bone hardiness and bloom strength have just gotten better!
I highly recommend that anyone with a patch of sunny ground set an Echinacea into it this spring! Hardy from Vermont to Florida, determined to thrive and bloom despite cold, heat, humidity, poor soil, and even drought, this native American perennial is a treasure. Its butterfly magnetism improves the entire garden, not only through pollination but also through sheer beauty. Its flowers -- larger than ever now and often sweetly fragrant! -- are stunning in bouquets as well as the garden. Its fat central cones, as they dry out in autumn, become feasts for songbirds. And its presence in the bed or border is just a gift to gardeners, year after year!
The problem isn't whether to grow Echinacea, but which to select. Never before have we been treated to so many new looks in this old favorite! Unfortunately, they're selling like crazy, which means that you need to make your choices and place your order soon. And if you simply can't decide or want to save a little money, take a look at our collections. There are some deals and steals waiting for you in these collections!
Echinacea Sunset - Sweetly fragrant, these big 4-inch flowers open coral-orange, then deepen to ripe tangerine over their long bloomtime -- a whole new look for Echinacea! Absolutely the most exciting new Echinacea in the world today, it's one of the new Cone Crazy Collection (the other one is Sunrise, below) of scented, long-blooming, strong-stemmed, large-coned varieties. 30 inches high and wide.

Echinacea Sunrise -
The perfect companion to Sunset, with even bigger blooms (up to 5 inches) and more of them (about two dozen at once, even on a young plant)! While Sunset's blooms darken with age, Sunrise's lighten -- they begin a rich gold and mature to buttery yellow! 18 to 24 inches high, 24 inches wide.

Echinacea Razzmatazz - The only double-flowered Echinacea in the world! These giant puffballs are 3 to 4 inches across and nearly as high. If you can resist this Echinacea, you're a stronger gardener than I am! They make great cutflowers, too, lasting 2 weeks or so in the vase. 2 1/2 feet tall and wide.

Echinacea Kim's Mophead - I have a sneaking suspicion that more people grow this dwarf than just about any other Echinacea. It's white -- so it makes all the surrounding colors look brighter, and complements everything -- and it's just the right size for edging, the front of the border, and accent plantings. A breakthrough in plant habit, it's heavy on the blooms and very light on foliage. And the bloom power is unparalleled -- all the way through fall in warm climates! 18 to 24 inches high and wide.

Wayside's Dwarf Echinacea Collection #30340
The most exciting introduction to come along in quite a while, the Cone Crazy series of Echinacea comes to us from master plantsman Richard Saul of Georgia. He's been breeding and trialing Purple Coneflowers for nearly a decade, and we're pleased to bring you three of his most exciting new varieties in one economical collection. Just as hardy and tolerant of stress as plain old Coneflowers, these stunning new varieties turn Echinacea from a wildflower to a cutflower supreme! You won't believe how showy and long-lasting these blooms are, arising all summer long (and well into fall in warmer areas) on sturdy, well-branched, super easy plants.
This collection includes 1 each of Echinacea Summer Sky™, 'Sunrise,' and After Midnight™, for a total of 3 plants, at the very nice price of $29.95! (That's a 23% savings over the individual price!)
